Match Report - Women’s League Round 2

Well done to our Ladies today for a well fought league match day 2 at Pafos Fair Game.

First match - Aphrodite Wanderers Ladies v Polis & Latchi Lionesses. Lost: 2-0
This was a tough opener with the best organised and disciplined team of the day putting a lot of pressure on our Lionesses who held on and grew into the game. Only a dubious decision / mistake or two led to 2 goals being scored against us.

Second match - Akamas Ladies v Polis & Latchi Lionessess. Draw: 0-0
The next game against Akamas was played at a different pace and really suited the style of play and system we have been working on recently. Some great multi pass possession at various points kept Akamas chasing.us and we created a number of chances which unfortunately did not result in goals on this occasion so a 0-0 draw was the result here but the Lionesses totally dominated the game.

Third match - Paphos United Ladies v Polis & Latchi Lionesses. Lost: 2-0
The final game against Pafos was set to be our biggest test. On day 1 in January, Pafos scored a total of 15 goals in 3 games so we considered our options for this match to man mark 2 of their most dangerous players but chose instead to stick to our system and see how it went;. Despite the vast experience and ability in  the Pafos team they didn't know how to deal with our set up and ever improving quality and it showed with them getting frustrated. We lost the game 2-0 but that score line flatters Pafos with one of the goals coming from a contentious penalty.

We were well organized and a lot was learnt with a huge improvement on show from every single player on our team today, so a huge well done everyone..  A special well done to Viktoria who only did her first session this week and was superb in goal and player of the match in our final game. Great Job Viktoria.

Thanks to Mike for your help and encouragement. Being only 6 days into the job as Ladies manager was a real pleasure and myself along with the rest of our many supporters (thank you for coming) were so proud of how our ladies played and grew in stature, confidence and ability in front of our eyes.
